Documenting Process

Picking the three fruits:
-From memory, online research and/or real life experience like fruit markets.

-I would pick one that represents Palestine and another that represents Saudi Arabia, the two countries that are part of my Identity. The third one represents the UK, the country that I moved to which is currently shaping me through my experiences.

-With the process of observation I start sketching the different parts of the fruits that intrigue me. Sometimes I sketch it in my notebook and preplan, but sometimes I free-flow and paint directly on the canvas and let things shape and form organically.

Memories

I remember I use to find the insides of a pomegranate so fascinating as a kid and how the fruit can bleed red.

the prick of a cactus is the reason why i hate sharp objects.

and berries were seasonal, expensive and something that was always imported.

-Sketching ideas   -Writing down thoughts and process.  -Constantly questioning the self

Documenting the process of my first oil painting. it took the longest, I haven't used oil paint in over 6 years. size: 30x30 cm.

- the flowers are an extension of the mind. Placed on an earring to emphasize beauty.

- the white lines, which is usually found on packages to indicate where to cut, represents the concept of mental limitation. In this case, the limitation is coming from an outer source; the ‘influence’.

Contemplating experimenting with clay,

I think working with form and structure could add another layer to my work.

Thinking of presentation:

Producing my morphed fruit and regular fruits with clay/ceramics.

Placing them all in a wooden crate, like you would find in supermarkets.

Watched a movie on netflix
Titled: Farha
A true story, one of thousands, of a 14-year-old girls experience of war and genocide of 1948 Palestine.

The opening scene is of young girls singing a folk song about the fig fruit, next to a fig free while eating figs. Just another display of how fruits are important in Arab culture.
